Ask anyone who visits Toronto, and they’ll tell you that this city is incredible overall, but there’s just something extra special about the West End. As West Toronto Realtors®, we couldn’t agree more.
The vibe is even more noticeable when you live here. There isn’t one thing that stands out above all else; it’s everything, lush parks in the middle of a bustling city, an eclectic array of independent stores along tree-lined streets, tons of fantastic restaurants and cafes, art galleries; the list goes on.
Most of all, though, it’s the people. Yes, our neighbours are the true heart of Toronto’s West End. With that in mind, we’re excited to tell you all about some of the communities we serve.

Roncesvalles
Trendiness and sophistication, here we come! Roncesvalles has a long-standing reputation as one of the most stylish places in Toronto, all without even trying. If you visit, or better yet, move to Roncesvalles, one of your first tasks will be to get with the lingo. It’s “Roncy” to the locals!
Whatever you call it, you can’t deny the youthful, energetic vibe among residents, regardless of their age. An abundance of families of all backgrounds certainly contributes to the overall friendliness of the neighbourhood, and Roncy seems perfectly made for lively conversations.
Extra-wide streets leave plenty of space for strollers. Generous amounts of green spaces – courtesy of Sorauren Avenue Park- allow residents to gather for baseball games, soccer, or tennis. This park is also where we look forward to annual events, like the Pumpkin Parade. Then there’s the farmer’s market that opens every spring, the perfect spot for scoring farm-fresh meats and produce, as well as a variety of baked goodies.
Need we say more? Actually, we have a lot more to say about Roncy, which you’ll discover in Where Is Roncesvalles, Toronto?
High Park
If the High Park neighbourhood were a person, they would be the most beautiful in town. You could never bring yourself to hate them, though, because they’d also be the warmest, friendliest, most delightful person you’ve ever met, always there with a smile, a helping hand, not to mention the best ideas for an afternoon out.
The residential area of High Park is situated adjacent to one of Toronto’s largest and most picturesque green spaces. The other side of Parkside Drive is like being in a forest, one where you can lose yourself for hours under a canopy of trees, with ponds, creeks, trails, picnic spots, and even a petting zoo.
High Park is a stunning place to explore with family members, especially with those who say “woof” instead of “hello” and walk on four legs! If you get tired, stop at Grenadier Cafe for refreshments. The outdoor patio is pet-friendly, so your four-legged pal is welcome to join you.
It’s easy to see why natural beauty gets all the glory in High Park. This area is well-known as an outdoor lover’s paradise, but it’s also an underrated little shopping district. The nearby Bloor West strip offers anything you need. High Park has it all, and it’s impossible not to love.

The Junction
To the north of High Park lies The Junction, otherwise known as the “cool” neighbourhood. Whether you have a creative flair, or just appreciate those who do, you are sure to love the independent art galleries concentrated along Dupont Street, Annette Street, and Helens Avenue.
Visual art is one of the highlights of The Junction, but so is music. This is one of the best places to catch a live band, all while sipping on a new craft beer and sharing a plate of nachos with your besties. Venues like Junction Underground and The Hole in the Wall have helped to put The Junction on the map as a hip neighbourhood known for its nightlife and entertainment.
Is The Junction just for night owls and party animals? Not at all. While there’s no doubt that residents here love to have fun, this is actually one of the most family-friendly communities around.
Quiet streets and plenty of parks make The Junction a great place for kids of all ages, and for adults who still secretly love playing on the swing set (when no one is watching, of course).
The Junction also boasts plenty of independent shops, including family-friendly cafes and bookstores like Type Books, with a dedicated kids’ section. Many of these boutique stores and eateries are located in older buildings with fascinating architecture. Wouldn’t you know it; even the businesses in The Junction are cool.

Parkdale
Parkdale is the West End Toronto neighbourhood with the rough and gritty reputation, but look a little closer, and all you’ll see is a beautiful soul, inside and out. The location itself is simply stunning, both in its architecture and in the lovingly kept landscaping and mature trees all around. The area is also a stone’s throw from High Park, so it’s naturally picturesque and full of gorgeous scenery.
The real beauty of Parkdale, however, is its heart. The West End is known for its sense of community, and no neighbourhood shows how much it cares more than Parkdale. Here, homeowners actually advocate for social justice and watch out for the vulnerable by promoting social housing and other initiatives.
Due to their patronage of the arts, Parkdale also draws more than its share of talent. Other neighbourhoods might have art galleries sprinkled throughout. Parkdale is different. It doesn’t just have galleries; it is the gallery, with impressive street murals and public art displays all over that are free to view anytime.
The warm, welcoming vibe in Parkdale has helped it become one of Toronto’s most diverse neighbourhoods, with people from all walks of life and financial backgrounds living harmoniously together.

Bloor West Village
Bloor West Village (BWV)is a haven for shoppers who want more than a run-of-the-mill mall experience. Here, it’s about the markets, the local artisans, and the independent boutiques where you can always find something a little different and absolutely perfect.
Shop local, and get higher quality than you’ll find anywhere else; does it get any better than that? It does, actually. Just take a look at the restaurants in Bloor West Village. The abundance of independently owned establishments is a huge draw, not just for BWV residents but for people from all over. Given Toronto’s reputation for great restaurants, that’s high praise!
Cuisines range from Canadian fare and elevated fast food to Italian, Polish, Korean, Mexican, Turkish, and more. Bloor West Village also has the honour of hosting the largest and longest-running Ukrainian Festival in North America.
Living here is a great way to expand your taste horizons without getting on a plane or even into a car, for that matter. BWV also happens to be one of the most walkable neighbourhoods anywhere.
Approximately 400 businesses within a short distance offer all the convenience you’ll ever need. Fun fact: Did you know that the Bloor West Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) was the first BIA anywhere in Canada? How is that for a fascinating tidbit of history?
Bloor West Village is exactly what you envision when you think of big city life. It’s convenient and fun, with few of the drawbacks of a huge metropolis. It’s also peaceful and scenic, as you’re literally steps away from the trails of High Park.
Head the other direction, and you can stroll or cycle along the breathtaking Humber River. If you love being surrounded by the action, but still close to nature, Bloor West Village is one to watch.

Baby Point
Baby Point is one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in Toronto. With a location on a peninsula by the Humber River, spectacular scenery and landscaping come with the territory.
A day in your life as a Baby Point resident might include strolling about Etienne Brulé Park as you take in the riverside views. Or, you might spend the afternoon browsing the boutiques and shops along the Baby Point Gates Business Improvement Area. If you really want to bask in the exclusive air of the community, you could play tennis at Baby Point Club or arrange a celebration at Baby Point Lounge.
Baby Point is small, with homes that are typically spacious and majestic, hardly surprising given the neighbourhood began as a garden suburb. For those with a generous budget, this upscale community offers peaceful, high-end living and a family-friendly environment.

Swansea
“Elegant” is perhaps the best word to describe Toronto’s Swansea neighbourhood. It’s nestled right next to High Park on one side. The shores of Lake Ontario lie to the south, Grenadier Pond to the east, while the Humber River forms the western border of Swansea. Given its location, we don’t need to tell you this area is scenic!
The topography of Swansea is naturally hilly and green, which could very well have been the inspiration for the Anne of Green Gables novels. (Yes, the legendary Lucy Maud Montgomery was once a resident here). Swansea is also highly convenient, with amenities like a library, a community centre, a giant ice rink, and multiple tennis courts.
Like its neighbour High Park, Swansea is an ideal place for those who love the great outdoors. It also happens to feature one of Toronto’s top schools, Swansea Junior and Senior Public School, which makes it a highly sought-after community for families.
