Christmas Movies - Movies to Watch about Houses and Moving

Happy holidays! It’s that happy time between Christmas and New Year, where there isn’t much to do but sit on your couch, eat leftovers and watch movies. No matter what happens in 2022, we are reasonably sure that it will be a hectic year for real estate—however, enough of that right now. Hopefully, you’re watching movies on your couch and don’t need to be bothered by real estate updates. Instead, here are four movies to watch to get you in the mood to buy or sell in 2022

In no particular order:

1. The Money Pit (1986)

If you ever feel like moving out of the city and buying a fixer-upper, watch this movie first. Yes, everything goes incredibly wrong comically, but the problems are also eerily close to real life. A raccoon living in the kitchen? Check. Staircase crumbing through the floors? Check. If you need a reason not to buy a “gut-job,” as we call them, watch this movie.

2. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

If you ever need a reason to move to Italy and fix up a villa, watch this movie. Unlike The money pit, this movie paints a highly romantic picture of renovating an old estate. It is very far from reality, of course, but why not pour yourself a glass of wine and pretend that you, too, could buy an Italian villa and create a whole community of friends while facing quirky and adorable renovation problems? It will leave you feeling like all is right in the world.

3. Home Alone (1990)

In this movie, the house is a character in its own right. Kevin Mcallister’s parents accidentally leave him alone while travelling to France. Kevin survives alone by using different parts of the house in new ways. He sets up elaborate party scenes to deter potential burglars. The home is his terror and refuge, all wrapped up in one fun comedy.

4. The Humans (2021)

Amy Schumer has a starring role in this movie, but it is not a comedy. This movie takes place in a scummy apartment in lower Manhattan that Schumer’s sister has just moved into. Family relationships unravel at the same rate that the apartment crumbles.
